Howsabout Laundry Day Gargamel?
Picture (or perhaps don't) Gargie in a patched & pilled pair of brick red long-johns, bending over a cauldron of suds with an old-fashioned washing board. His freshly-scrubbed tunics are pegged to a line behind him (that they are clean is the only positive you can say about them). A lone red sock, on a nefarious mission to dye his wash pink, hangs out of the cauldron. A box of laundry soap, bought in bulk of course, lies at his feet.

I decided that this contest is so much fun that I would do six hand-done Gargamels. All are marker, coloured pencil and watercolour.

First up is Tourist Gargamel. He hopes to lure Smurfs with his good-time personality!

Meet Entertainer Gargamel. He is sure that his energetic dancing and singing will lure the Smurfs close enough to be caught in his banana trap!



Gargamel loves a holiday, and there is no one he loves more than his Mummy. He’s sure that luring little Smurfs with chocolates will enable him to give Mummy a special Valentine’s present!

Safari Gargamel has a plan to lure little Smurfs away from civilization into the deep, dark jungle to some animal sighting. Look at that tiger over there!



Lastly, Dessert Gargamel is very fond of sweets, and of course nothing is sweeter than a Smurf covered with sugar- if only he had a Smurf! Maybe he can lure one with Smurfberry pie!

I don’t think Gargamel can be ALL bad - after all, he loves his little kitty! And I have just come across family records that show he has a cousin in France, with whom he shares some traits: large nose, big feet, love for his pet....

I don’t think I can do it justice in a drawing, so here’s a description of how I see his cousin influencing his dress sense: growing pigtails and a moustache, bulking up (his cousin would recommend steaming platters of wild boar) and showing off his (large) new upper torso by just wearing stripy hose held up with a wide belt, and the whole look topped off with a neat little helmet. And cuddling sweet little Azrael. He may also need to undergo a personality-transplant.

Then he could support the little Barbarians and the sage old Druid (aka Father Time) in their clashes with those dastardly Romans in the mountain area!

So, all in all a big ask, but those guys at Bongfish are true magicians, and if anyone can do it, they can!
